COMMUNITY SERVICE
One of the tenants of DKA’s creed is “In helping others follow their bliss, I shall ask for no reward, I shall seek no glory.” We believe in helping others accomplish their goals and giving back to the community. The fraternity and its service partners provide opportunities both nationally and on the local level to serve your community such as SeriousFun Children’s Network (founded by DKA alumnus Paul Newman) and local Film Mentorship programs.
SERIOUSFUN CHILDREN'S NETWORK
More than two decades ago, DKA alumnus Paul Newman had a vision: imagine if children with serious illnesses had the chance to simply be children. To just have fun. So he started a camp where kids could, in his words, “raise a little hell.” Today, we continue Paul’s legacy with SeriousFun Children’s Network, a growing global community of independently managed and financed camps and partnership programs that create opportunities for children and their families to reach beyond serious illness and discover joy, confidence and a new world of possibilities—always free of charge.
CHAPTER FUNDRAISING
To better help raise funds for DKA, we've made efforts to make DKA a well-known name around campus. Through the use of social media, specifically Facebook events, we've accomplished this goal to better advertise our presence and our fundraising initiatives.
Most recently, our chapter has partnered with local restaurants like Chipotle and Blaze Pizza for a percentage of proceeds to peak the interest of the local student body, because who isn't a foodie? Facebook has provided our chapter the ability to create and share events with anyone, even those at neighboring schools. Fun reminders leading up to the fundraising events helped get the maximum amount of people out to support us.
Our fundraisers are intended to help our chapter maintain itself, as well as, help community organizations including DKA's philanthropy, SeriousFun Children's Network founded by DKA alumnus Paul Newman.
